Community Involvement

Student of the Month

Power Credit Union and Pueblo School District 70 have partnered together to award students for their outstanding achievements throughout the school year. Your child becomes eligible for the award by being selected as a "Student of the Month" by their school's administrators. The compiled list of all "Students of the Month" for each school is then forwarded to our offices for selection. Since its inception in 2004, we have awarded one student per month at each District 70 Elementary and Middle School.

Recipients of this award will receive a $25 certificate that can be redeemed at any one of Power Credit Union's four locations for the purpose of opening a share/savings account* or depositing it into an existing account held by the student. Our hope is that your child will begin to build a financial relationship in a credit union environment so that when they become old enough to open a checking account or other services, they are comfortable and established with a full service institution that can assist them in beginning their future.

When your student opens an account with us they become a member of our "Power Kid's Club" (ages 0-12) or "Power House" Club (ages 13-18). With their membership students become eligible for lots of prizes plus many other perks. Learn more about our Youth Accounts.

If you have any questions about our "Student of the Month" program please contact a Power Representative at 719-564-0710 or toll free at 800-238-3611.

* If your child is opening a new account we will need a photocopy of your child's social security card as well as driver's license and social security card of the parent/guardian. The parent/guardian will become a joint owner on this account and will need to be present to conduct any credit union business until your child reaches the age of sixteen. The minimum deposit and balance of a savings account is $25. You may feel free to deposit any additional funds at that time or any time thereafter.

Adopt A Classroom

Power Credit Union, in an effort to promote education in the communities we serve, has created an "Adopt a Classroom" program to help those teachers in need of funds to make their classroom an inviting environment for learning. In an age of ever-growing classroom sizes, we understand the need for basic tools to complete your mission. We hope our grant monies ease this burden as well as help promote financial literacy in our schools. We invite the opportunity to present financial concepts in your classroom and would like to be viewed as a resource for all educators in this department.

Two $500.00 awards will be granted to two individual teachers in mid-June 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year. All school teachers in the following areas are eligible to apply: Pueblo School District 70, Pueblo School District 60, Fremont County School Districts, Canon City School Districts, and any teacher in an alternative or private school environment in Pueblo or Fremont Counties.

Grant applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Evidence of need
  • Creativity of use of funds
  • Proposed budget for use of funds
  • Number of students affected by project or program
  • Quality of grant submission

All applications must be received in our office no later than May 15th, 2008. Download Application

As this is our 2nd year for this program, we look forward to reviewing your requests. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly at (719) 561-5120 or via email at charlotte@powercu.org
